Before Application

Tools You Will Need

Wire Cutter

You will need a pair of wire cutters strong enough to cut 0.4mm diameter stainless steel wires (piano wire).
We offer two models for purchase that come with a handy tool to remove NailLift clips.

As NailLift’s braces are much harder than average stainless steel wires, it can be difficult to find smaller wire cutters with sharp blade tips strong enough to safely and effectively trim them. After much research, we determined the two models below can safely trim the braces and have made special arrangements with their manufacturers so that we can provide them to our customers. Each wire cutter also comes with a handy tool to remove NailLift clips. They are also a great, long-lasting addition to any home tool box.

Prepare Your Nail

Length

Trim or file your nail until the white tip that extends beyond the nail bed is straight with square corners and at least 2.5 mm (1/10”) long.

Nail Thickness

If your nail is too thick for the NailLift clips

Use the nail file included in every NailLift kit to file down the nail. We recommend you first mark the area you will file with a permanent marker. This helps to keep track of what you have filed. The black side of the nail file is 60 grit. It is very coarse and will quickly file away the nail surface. The white side of the file is 120 grit and can be used to smooth the edges and buff the filed nail.

If your nail is too thin for the clips to properly grip

Sometimes, the nail tip can be too thin for the NailLift clips to get a proper grip.
In this case, attach NailLift as usual and apply a gel pedicure on top.
You can also use super glue (cyanoacrylate).
